Okay I was reading this horrible horrible shoujo manga, and I can't stand it anymore so I'm going to rant about it here. Firstly, the girl is one of those annoying types that wins over all her enemies in the end. And yet she's so selfish that she can't like the person who is engaged to her so-called crush, who was very nice to her. (despite making friends with the person who also wants to marry her crush and the other person who threatened her with bodily harm and the other person who told a group of guys to rape her...) Split personality or what? Secondly, REJECTION IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. Goodness. I can't stand this depression and pointless worrying and spontaneous blushing and self denial anymore. Just do it, you stupid woman. Everybody knows he likes you anyway. That's the problem with these kinds of mangas, it's either she has to choose between two equally good guys with little variation in personality and general perfection, or there's just this one guy she's bound to end up with despite all the setbacks and whatever. All there is left is the melodrama and unresolved sexual tension. Like anyone wants to know about that. Thirdly, this is what happened. Main character: Ouch! I cut my finger! Everyone: OHMYGOSHHHHHHH ARE YOU OKAY!?!?!?!!?!1111!1 Calm down for goodness sakes. No one dies from a small cut like that. (excluding Bella Swan). The more you coddle her the more I want to shoot her. She is so bloody helpless. (The manga is Imadoki, btw. Typical poor girl gets bullied by rich kids thing.) Please, that girl threw a bike over the railing. And rode down it too. So why is it she cannot even land one good punch on the XXX guys who are threatening her with assault/rape/toy guns/nothingbutpossessesamenacingaura? For something that is an exception, take the shoujo manga Cat Street for an example. The main character liked this guy who she knew from grade school but then found out that he was going out with this other girl. So she broke down and cried, but you know what? SHE GOT OVER IT. (moreover, she could talk to him normally after that without stuttering or blushing.) And it was that girl who was going out with him who helped her get better, and they became good friends after that. But wait, there's more. She later went out with this other guy, but they found out that things just didn't work between them because she was always thinking about this other guy. So they broke up. AND THEY REMAINED GOOD FRIENDS AFTER. But she didn't even see the guy she liked until a couple of years later. Then they started going out, and later got married. (this is a whole load of spoilers, isn't it. btw, I also love the way the hair is drawn, but that isn't the point.) And guess what, they only hugged once, throughout the ENTIRE manga. I don't think they even kissed. At all. Awesome, isn't it? Go read it now. GO. Anyway, I suggest for all shoujo manga characters to: JUST DO IT. If it fails, GET OVER IT. You will not asphyxiate and die without your "one true love". Alternatively, GO DIE. That is all. Thank you. UPDATE: Now his brother fell in love with her?! This. Is. So. Messed. Up. What? Really, WHAT? She can't have him, so she takes his brother, who reminds her so much of him. Messed up. Really messed up. What is wrong with this girl. Feel sorry for the brother. Everyone knows that she'll reject him in the end anyway. And all he prolly will say is "I knew it all along, I was just trying to make you realize your feelings for him, I hope you'll be happy together~" No one cares about the fate of supporting characters. (Cat Street! You hear me? Cat street! At least the supporting characters actually get some development and aren't just there to argue over who's gonna kiss the main characters' feet next.) You ignored her calls and when she came to see you out of concern you're hobnobbing with some other weird guy who was previously a homeless bum... now she's having her baby one week premature, and SUREEE it's not your fault. Don't mind me, just listen to all your friends. If anything happens to her... you'll what? You trailed off there so I'm not sure what you meant, but you probably were going to say that you'll wallow in sorrow and self-pity for about 10 pages so that some guy can come and save you and tell you that it wasn't your fault, it just fate, live on happily with your many boyfriends so that she'll rest in peace. Right. Gah I'm not reading this anymore. I admire Jess for being able to persevere through worse mangas than this. Especially the one with the roses... *shudder* |
